Hi Friends, happy Sunday! This weekend I wanted to tackle one of the many projects we have off of our to-do list! One of those projects being spicing up our small little toilet space in our master bath. Its a tiny room with just the toilet, no natural light, just walls. Its very plain and very boring ( I know I know, its just a toilet space, it doesn’t need to be fun….but it doesn’t hurt! haha)

So I originally had several wallpapers picked out but when it came down to it I couldn’t justify spending 200 dollars on a tiny wall…in a bathroom…SO! diy faux wallpaper it is!

Here is our sad little bathroom beforehand…

For this wall I was strongly leaning towards my normal, black or gray, but since it is on the smaller side I went for a happy brighter color! The color I chose is Canyon Dusk by Behr paint. I am beyond excited about how this color turned out!

  1. For this project I used the smaller end of the sponge, its a 3″ side, so I measured across the wall 3 inches, then 1 inch tape, 3 inches, 1 inch tape. Until I was across the whole wall.
  2. I laid my painters tape down on the marks I made every 3″. You will get vertical sections.
  3. I then took a leveler, I measure now down each piece of tape 3″ so I would have 3×3 boxes along the whole wall to work with. I measured both vertically and horizontally 3″. I didn’t use painters tape for the horizontal lines, I just marked on the tape so I had something for my eyes to follow. This might be an added step that is unnecessary but I am the type who drifts and I didn’t want to end up with a leaning wallpaper.

        4. It was now time to paint! I used the shorter end of the sponge and           worked my way down the wall in each section! It is as easy as that. Once     you are done sponging pull off your tape and TA-DAH! You have a faux wallpaper wall!

The only tips I have are to not put too much paint on the sponge, you don’t want it to drip down the wall. I used a paper towel to dap the excess off each time I dipped the sponge. Also taking the time to tape off the section makes your project easy and quick!

All we are waiting on is an abstract art piece for above the toilet and she’s finished!

This space turned out better than I imagined! I am in looooove! Where can you do a sponge wall in your home? Entryway? Laundry room? Kids room? Bathroom? Office space? Please share your faux wallpaper projects! I would love to see!
