Hi Friends! Are you feeling like your kitchen and bathroom need a little pick me up? But you don’t have the knowledge or time to be knocking down walls and tearing out cabinets? A lot of the time there is no need to knock things down and rebuild them, you just need a superficial makeover! Making some visual changes can make a space feel brand new and inviting again.
We moved into our home a little over a year ago. My friends always say to me, ” you moved into a brand new home, what changes are there to make” I want our house to feel like OURS so we have made little changes here and there that have made a big impact! Im going to share some ideas I have for you, whether you’ve been in your home for 20+ years, you are a new home owner, renting, or a brand new home, these are all changes that are simple, not expensive, but create a brand new space!

- Change out the hardware on your cabinets. You can sell the old ones through any second hand shop, ours sold in a day, it’s something people are always searching for.
- Change out the ceiling lighting. Put in some pendant lights above your island, or sink. Or replace strip lighting with some track lighting that you can aim anywhere you want/need light.
- Unscrew your cabinet doors and change up the color. All you need is a good roller, and woodwork paint.
- Cover old patterned or colored tiles with tile stickers. Might sound cheap and awful but they last a long time and give your kitchen a real lift. If you can’t bear putting stickers in your kitchen you can always get decals from online or a paint store to paint on a pattern. Both options really look great and you can’t even tell the tiles didn’t come that way!
- Paint one wall in your kitchen. Taking whole cupboard doors off to paint might be intimidating so try painting an accent wall. It doesn’t have to be anything drastic but a mild change of shade can make your whole kitchen pop.
- Create some open shelving. I think this adds so much character to a kitchen. If you are renting you probably can’t be taking down entire cabinets but you can take off the doors and create an open feel that way. If you are a home owner you can obviously take down cabinets, and drill into existing tile. Go. for. it!
- Add a runner in your kitchen. This was the best thing I did in our kitchen. It adds color and a softness to it. You can add a rug under the kitchen table as well if I runner doesn’t work in your kitchen layout.

- Again, change out bathroom hardware. In all of our bathrooms we have changed out the usual silver that comes with a home and in exchange, brass in some bathrooms and black in others. It helps SO much and looks amazing!
- Add new mirrors in your bathroom. Maybe your current ones are outdated, maybe they are the ones that came with the house, either way, pop those babies off and add something with character! Mirrors can change the entire look of a space.
- Create more storage in your bathroom. Bring a small shelf unit in, like a decorative ladder or floating shelves. Floating shelves are perfect for above a toilet or bath as well. Add towel hooks behind a bathroom door.
- New lighting is always a good idea. lighting above sinks or above a bath can change the whole outlook of a space!
- Change out tiling. If you are in a rental property this is still possible. Again tile decals are awesome! You can change 70’s tile into beautiful white subway tile or something more modern and bold! They really keep up and can be just the change you are looking for.
