I have a strong love/hate relationship with taking down Christmas decor. I love having it up. I love the extra twinkling light, the extra comfort it brings, the happiness of it all. I’m always so sad to see it go…but! At the same time it gives me so much energy and excitement to put it all away! The feeling of our home after a deep clean, it’s like pushing the reset button. The excitement of rearranging allll the things. Almost all my “normal” decor gets a new home, a new look on life, if you will. Ha! Rearranging furniture, decor, and seeing a new place for old things gives me all the feels! Please tell me I’m not alone in this?!

My goals after the holidays was to declutter, deep clean, and redecorate. Although my main focus was getting our master bedroom feeling like its actually “finished”! My dad made us this beautiful coffee table, unfortunately our living room rug is just a little too full, a little too chunky, so we moved it up to our bedroom. Voila! Just like that our bedroom feels finished, cozy and like a place I never want to leave!

Each year Scott and I go over our past year goals, evaluate how we did, and set new goals for the year. Once we have settled on our certain goals and ambitions, the only thing left to do is give our home a fresh start! There are several ways to make changes in your home to make it feel rejuvenated and to give yourself a great start to the new year!

Here are some ideas for a refreshed home for a new year!

I don’t know about you but it can be challenging for me to focus on new goals when your space is cluttered and disorganized. One of the best ways to hit the reset button this new year is to go through your belongings and organize, donate, or trash them. For my husband and I we tackled our closet and the kids closets. We donated clothes, shoes, and bags we no longer use. We bought closet organization bins and totes. It feels 100 times better in our home because of this.

Get out your vacuum, duster, mop, and every cleaning spray you own! I love to take everything off its shelf, out of drawers and cabinets and wipe everything down. Move some furniture to get a good clean, give your shower a good scrub, dust every nook and cranny!

Best way (in my opinion) to give your home new life is by changing up your decor. I don’t mean go and buy all new decorations, I just mean move items to a new space. If you took a family photo down to put up something for Christmas maybe don’t put that photo back in the same place. Find it a new home and maybe in its place put a mirror. Play around with different colors and textures that you haven’t tried in a space before. Maybe taking a good ol’ trip to Home Goods would do some good! Find two new things to brighten up your space. For us we live in a very rainy, cloudy, depressing state so I like to add as much green as I can! Maybe move some furniture around. Growing up my favorite thing was when my mom and I would re arrange my bedroom just for fun, move the bed to a new wall, move your armoire, change up the seating you have in your bedroom. Giving decor a new space in your home can be just the ticket to a fresh start to your new year!

Before I go I just wanted to add that this year instead of taking all the decorations down, I have kept and rearranged some of my tree decor from Christmas. Its always been all the decor goes up and then it all comes down after the new year but why shouldn’t we keep a little winter wonderland up until spring?? I am in love with how it looks, and can’t believe I haven’t done this before! It still gives the feel of refreshed, clean, and open, but not the sense that spring is upon us. Nothing like having a bright and airy home, feeling like it should be summer any day now…then you step outside and remember “yes, yes its still 35 degrees out and winter just started”. So for now some winter decor stays and I couldn’t be more happy about it!

I hope this has given you some ideas for a fresh start to a new year! I would love to hear from you so please leave any comments or questions you have below! Happy New Year Friends!
