For many of us our entire work lives have changed through COVID.  We are now working from home without warning or much time to prepare.

Creating an office space at home, whether for you or your at home kids, can help you stay productive and help with the chaos. Here are some tips on how I set up my home office and how I stay productive at home.

If you do not have a home office in your house, don’t fret! Most people don’t, including me! Trust me, it is so worth finding a little space you can create to be your own then sitting hunched over at the kitchen counter or at your dining room table. Find a place in your home where you can set up a table or desk that you will be relatively undisturbed. This could be a guest bedroom, master bedroom, living room. Ours is set up in a spare room we have for now. It doesn’t have to be a large space!

Everything that you will need to work (or do your school work) make it reachable to you from your desk. Pen holder, notebooks, calendar, a file organizer are all things you can keep right on your desk to keep you in your seat and productive.

Just because you are working from home now doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty! Add a decor piece or two that gives you some flair but also functionality. I added a gold lamp, gold pen holder, and a candle. Other ideas might be a picture frame, a fun clock or a fancy phone holder!

You are creating a space in your home you never thought you would have. So instead of creating a space that sticks out and is an eye sore, create a space that blends with the rest of your home. Choose colors that are consistent with your other decor. We have a lot of brass, neutrals, and dusty pinks in our home. I went with a simple white desk, gold accents, and a fun pink velvet chair for a pop of color!

I find that if I do these 6 things everyday, I am less distracted and more productive.

  1. Get dressed
  2. Make a to-do list
  3. Schedule breaks for yourself
  4. Keep your desk clean and organized
  5. Have a water bottle on your desk
  6. Get some fresh air throughout the day

I hope this helps you create a functional workspace for your home with some added style! I would love to hear from you with any ideas or comments.

I’ve linked everything from my desk space below!
